FOR THE LOVE OF POETRY For years we have felt that poetry should comprise of stanzas made up of words and phrases that rhyme. However this class had given us a greater insight into the formation of poems. We established that poems are used to express ideas and feelings , as well as tell of a story. At the end of the class we were all more confident to create beautiful poetic pieces riddled with carefully formed stanzas and poetic flow. The lecturer had us recreate a cinquain as a class and each of us were given the responsibility to draft our own haiku. But before we did this we had to find out what a cinquain was, as this was a new word in our mental word collection. This was a stanza made up of five lines. Thus we were able to formulate a short cinquain that met the approval of the class. Unaware that poem had varieties, we were introduced to 4 types of poems, which were; ballads. narrative poems, limericks and the haiku. But of interest to us was this newly...

ReplyDeleteExcellently done! I enjoy reciting limericks and I'm certain that if used in the classroom the students will have fun reciting them also. Not only will they be having fun but will also be learning the content in a way that is easy to retain.
